Provenance is important to us at Renaissance Pubs. We personally visit our producers to make sure our ingredients are of the highest quality and best possible taste. Plus where animals are concerned we want to make sure that they've led the happiest lives.
What better way to do this than by rearing our very own animals? So we bit the bullet and bought some pigs.
They live in Hampshire in a two and half acre wood. They sleep in straw bedded huts and they eat a mix of a specially milled pig nut as well as surplus fruit and vegetables from local organic supplier Abel and Cole. We keep a close eye on them and entrust our very own farmer to make sure they are well looked after.
The next step is to add some cows to our herd and to implement some strict animal husbandry procedures. We will follow this with sheep and chickens with a view to growing the Renaissance Farm. In this way we can be more and more positive that the food we will be serving is from the very best stock. Hopefully this also shows our commitment to traceability.
